How to Live to be 100+

At TEDxTC, Dan Buettner–director of the “Blue Zone” program–shares the 9 common diet and lifestyle habits that keep 100+ year olds spry.  On the flip side, he talks about the myths of living longer.  If you’re short on time and want to get to the nuts and bolts of the talk, skip to about 16:00 and listen through the end (about 6 minutes total).

  1. So what did you take from that David?

To me, the lesson is: you are lucky among the human race to be born in Sardinia, Okinawa or to be a 7th Day Adventist in that little town in So Cal..

I can’t fathom being an american, in a culture that worships 20 year olds, and living to 100 trips around the Sun; watching everyone around me 20+ years younger grow infirmed and die. Everyone from my youth a distant, fading memory. Most of the kids from the previous generation feeble and geriatric.

I sure as hell don’t want to live that long. I’m gonna go pour some vodka, open a pack of marlboro lights, walk around the block under the palm trees and meditate on the beautiful brevity of this human condition…
